Birches

The tall white trunks of the birches present a lovely counterpoint to the deep green low-lying  hostas. Their overarching leaves create lacy patterns of dappled shade further enhancing the lure of this trail. To both enliven the green and create contrast I included varying amounts of red and blue in the paint mixtures for the foliage. Viles Arboretum, Augusta, Maine.
